Meet Our Team
Dr. Gene Fjeld
Dr. Gene Fjeld is a North Iowa native & grew up on a farm south west of Joice, Iowa graduating from Lake Mills High School. After graduating from Waldorf College in Forest City, he pursued an education in Veterinary medicine, graduating from Iowa State University in 1981. He practiced with the Klemme Vet Clinic for 5 years & 1 year at the Oelwein Vet Clinic before coming to Forest City to work for Dr. Carrol “Gus ” Gustafson in the fall of 1987 , becoming partner in the spring of 1988.
Gene enjoys all facets of veterinary medicine, large & small animal. He particularly enjoys orthopedic cases & the challenges it brings. He has many times been referred patients from other vet clinics for orthopedic work.
In 2018 Gene was thrilled to welcome his daughter Dr. Ceara Mullins into the practice.
In 2019 Ceara & Gene began plans for a bigger, more efficient clinic as they had outgrown the old clinic that was originally built in 1981, primarily as a hub for a mostly large animal practice at that time. In the fall of 2021 the beautiful new, spacious, Forest City Veterinary Clinic opened its doors on the south west side of Forest City.
Gene enjoys BBQing, cooking & spending free time with his family. He obtained his pilots license in 1976, & enjoys flying. When he can get away he loves to fish & looks forward to annual fishing trips to Canada with friends & family. Dr. Gene lives on an acreage in Forest City with his wife Jodi. Dr. Ceara Mullins
Dr. Ceara Mullins grew up in Forest City, Iowa where she developed a passion for animal care at a young age. This led to pursuing her career where she can share compassion, empathy, & promote the human-animal bond. She attended Forest City High School & graduated with a major in animal science from Iowa State University. She joined the Forest City Veterinary Clinic following graduation from Iowa State University College of Veterinary medicine in 2018. She specifically enjoys small animal medicine & surgery.
She resides in Forest City with her husband, Ryan, & two cats, Smokey & Smudge. She enjoys horseback riding, kayaking, hiking & exploring new places in her free time.
Jolie Davis
Jolie is a Certified Veterinary Technician who joined our team in 2019. She has been a veterinary technician for over 30 years & loves caring for pets. She started her career in 1990 after receiving her Associate in Applied Science from the University of Minnesota, Waseca & her certification after completing the Veterinary Technician National Exam.
“I love seeing a pet recover & reunite with their family, that is truly the best part of my job.” At work, she especially enjoys providing nursing care to the patients so they feel more at home in our care. She also enjoys anesthetic monitoring, dental cleaning & lab work.
Jolie grew up on a dairy/beef farm in rural Minnesota which is what piqued her interest in a veterinary career. She started her career in Minnesota working at three different practices until moving to Iowa & starting at the Forest City Veterinary Clinic in 2019. She adores her two cats “Tali” & “Liara” & especially loves having them snuggle with her & her husband while watching football. “Pets & people share a special bond that only comes from loving & being loved by a pet”. Some other things she enjoys are biking, hiking, traveling & PC gaming.
Hannah Main
Hannah Main is from Buffalo Center Iowa. She attended Iowa Lakes Community College & graduated with a veterinary technician degree. While enrolled there, she played on the volleyball team & also became interested in dog grooming. She completed an internship at the Forest City Vet Clinic which Hannah says is the main reason she completed the program, eventually applied & gained employment here after graduation. Her passion is dog grooming & she owns & operates a grooming salon in her hometown of Buffalo Center called Wiggle Butts Dog Grooming. Hannah loves competing in dog grooming competitions whenever she can. She owns two dogs, Josie a yellow lab, & Nash a golden retriever. Both come to work with Hannah while she grooms & are welcoming shop dogs.
Heidi Moklestad
Heidi Moklestad is a Veterinary Assistant at the Forest City Veterinary Clinic.
An eastern Iowa native, Heidi moved to the area in 2015. Prior to joining the Forest City Veterinary Clinic in Fall 2016, Heidi was employed as a laboratory manager in a Swine Artificial Insemination laboratory. Heidi holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Iowa State University & earned her IVMA Veterinary Assistant Certification in 2022.
During the week you can find Heidi assisting the veterinarians in surgery or patient appointments, performing dental cleanings, assisting in reception, providing patient care, organizing the clinic or managing clinic inventory. Heidi enjoys doting over each & every patient that enters the hospital, as well as providing pleasant & personal customer service to clients.
Outside of work, Heidi enjoys reading mysteries, baking & watching crime tv shows. She resides on an acreage with her husband Jeremy, 3 dogs, (2) dachshunds & a chocolate Labrador retriever, 2 indoor cats, & a small clowder of very spoiled farm cats.
Megan Duncan
Megan Duncan is a 2006 Forest City High School graduate & has been a customer service representative with the Forest City Vet Clinic since 2021. She is ready to help you schedule appointments & can fill your prescriptions or help you decide which parasite treatment is the best choice for your pet.
Megan is our go to when we’re having computer issues, & is in charge of our appointment reminders, on line prescription fulfillment & many other tasks. She is mom to Belle, an American Bully that she rescued from Texas in the spring of 2022.
Megan loves to camp & attend music festivals & concerts . She enjoys serving as a board member of the BrickStreet Theater, a non-profit community theater that just celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2023 in Forest City. Megan also enjoys crocheting & her friends & family often receive her many creations as gifts.
Kim Oulman
Kim Oulman Joined the Forest City Vet Clinic team in 2008. She is our customer service representative & has served as an assistant to the doctors in many different capacities. Whether you need a routine vaccination or you’re experiencing an emergency, Kim will ensure your visit to the vet is handled in a caring professional manner. ” I enjoy educating people on flea, tick & heartworm preventatives, helping customers in choosing the best foods for their pets, & helping ease customer’s minds with concerns when they call the clinic”. Kim keeps our Facebook page updated, & orders our Hills Science Diet Pet foods, & office supplies as well as other administrative duties.
Kim grew up in Forest City & resides here on an acreage with her husband Tom, & enjoys spending time with him, her two grown sons, daughter-in-law & other families in the area. She enjoys reading, trapshooting, spending time at the family cabin in Okoboji & traveling. Her passion is riding horses, & although she doesn’t currently own any, it’s on her wish list to get back into it again soon. She has 5 outdoor cats she enjoys for now.
Nerem Walter
Nerem Walter is a 2-year-old, neutered male domestic shorthair. Nerem came to the Forest City Veterinary Clinic as a kitten in August 2021 seeking employment opportunities in Human Resource Management. Nerem values & excels in promoting quality, and fulfilling relaxation techniques in the workplace environment. In his free time, he enjoys exercising (playing), gymnastics & yoga on the cat tree in the break room, & running marathons ( to his food bowl).
Festus Marshall
Festus Marshall is a 7-year-old, neutered male domestic longhair. Festus has served as the On-Site-Staff Clinic Counselor since the fall of 2020. Festus also serves as chairman of the Hospitalized Patients Committee which promotes welcoming & accepting all patients that visit the clinic. Festus enjoys grooming (himself & others), napping, cuddles from his staff, fuzzy blankets, sunning himself, & socializing with anyone who will tell him he is handsome.
