Situated in the heart of North Iowa, Forest City Veterinary Clinic stands as a beacon of exceptional veterinary care and heartfelt compassion for every animal we encounter. With roots extending back to the original dedicated endeavors of Dr. Gene Fjeld and then advanced with his daughter, Dr. Ceara Mullins, when she joined the practice in 2018. Our clinic has grown exponentially, both in infrastructure and in the trust of the communities we serve.
Today, we’re not just a veterinary clinic – we are a family of professionals who share a collective passion for nurturing the health and well-being of pets and livestock alike. Our team is always ready to ensure your animal companions receive the best care possible.
Dr. Gene Fjeld is a North Iowa native & grew up on a farm south west of Joice, Iowa graduating from Lake Mills High School. After graduating from Waldorf College in Forest City, he pursued an education in Veterinary medicine, graduating from Iowa State University in 1981. He practiced with the Klemme Vet Clinic for 5 years & 1 year at the Oelwein Vet Clinic before coming to Forest City to work for Dr. Carrol “Gus ” Gustafson in the fall of 1987 , becoming partner in the spring of 1988.
Gene enjoys all facets of veterinary medicine, large & small animal. He particularly enjoys orthopedic cases & the challenges it brings. He has many times been referred patients from other vet clinics for orthopedic work.
In 2018 Gene was thrilled to welcome his daughter Dr. Ceara Mullins into the practice.
In 2019 Ceara & Gene began plans for a bigger, more efficient clinic as they had outgrown the old clinic that was originally built in 1981, primarily as a hub for a mostly large animal practice at that time. In the fall of 2021 the beautiful new, spacious, Forest City Veterinary Clinic opened its doors on the south west side of Forest City.
Gene enjoys BBQing, cooking & spending free time with his family. He obtained his pilots license in 1976, & enjoys flying. When he can get away he loves to fish & looks forward to annual fishing trips to Canada with friends & family. Dr. Gene lives on an acreage in Forest City with his wife Jodi. They have 3 grown children. Ceara, & Ryan Mullins, Garrett & Kylie Fjeld, & Caitlin Fjeld
Dr. Ceara Mullins grew up in Forest City, Iowa where she developed a passion for animal care at a young age. This led to pursuing her career where she can share compassion, empathy, & promote the human-animal bond. She attended Forest City High School & graduated with a major in animal science from Iowa State University. She joined the Forest City Veterinary Clinic following graduation from Iowa State University College of Veterinary medicine in 2018. She specifically enjoys small animal medicine & surgery.
